Walking. You’ve probably heard how good it is for physical and mental health, but there are even more benefits to be gained from this simple activity.
If you’re struggling with a school project or college work, for example, stepping out for half an hour or so might just clear the brain fog that’s preventing you from solving the problem. Add gratitude into the mix and regular strolls have the potential to boost confidence and self-esteem, as well as inspire creative ideas.
It all comes down to being actively aware of who and what makes your life enjoyable. Practise the art of appreciating this while you walk – without looking at your phone or listening to music! – and there’s a good chance you’ll develop a more thankful view in general.
It can also be useful to help clear the mind and get you out of a rut if something has gone wrong or you’ve made a mistake and can’t stop thinking about it.
Repeatedly going over something in your mind like this can be a difficult cycle to break and leave you feeling frustrated and powerless. But the good news is that something as simple as going for a walk is an effective way to shift your perspective.
Changing your surroundings and becoming aware of them can help distract the mind and allow you to reflect on the situation in a different way. Perhaps, best of all, the more you do it, the easier it will become.
